Stephen Borden opened Torvac in 1995 after discovering a real joy in the technical sales industry. This joy helped to carry him through the first "tight" year. Steve recalls telling his family his short term hopes of just making it to the next month. Eventually it became 3 months, then a year and so on. "It was very close that first year, and now it's been over 10 really great years. The best part has been building a business where I go to a job I like everyday, and go home to a family I like even more."

Initially, Torvac sold exclusively Physical Electronics' Ion Pumps and Controls. Intent on building a business, Torvac began looking at the needs of the local vacuum clients (Midwestern United States) and immediately saw a heavy concentration of vacuum and deposition users. As the company started to grow, we began to search out other reputable manufacturing firms to enhance our product offerings, Torvac began to receive contracts from some of the industries best vacuum manufacturing companies to sell their products in the Midwest.
